Where is the serial number? – When asked to enter the serial number, you may find it difficult to know which number is the serial number, as there are multiple numbers on the box (3 in my case) and the token (2 on my case). To find the serial number on the token: look on the back of the token, the serial number is the number right underneath the barcode. To find the number on the box, look for the number underneath the QR code on the box, they are the same number. Look for something like GAKT0000F000. The other numbers on the box or the token are not the serial number.

Don’t expect it to last two years – The battery isn’t replaceable so set a reminder to buy a new one every year and update your hardware key. The last thing you want is to be locked out of some critical system because the battery died.

Enterprise-grade solution for Amazon Web Services access – The Gemalto Ezio token is quite similar to the RSA SecureID token which I think is more prevalent in the market. It does exactly one thing: Display a pseudo-random number that changes according to time. After the device is activated, it becomes impossible to login to AWS web interface without entering the number shown on the token.

A great way to lock down your AWS root account – I just got the electronic token generator from Gemalto. As their notes specify, this is a specialized device for Amazon Web Services (e.g., you can’t use it with your GMail account). It seems like a good product. The only reason I didn’t give it a five star review is the Amazon definition for five starts is “I love it”. How in love can you be with an electronic token generator? But I certainly like it.
