It Works and It Works Well – I purchased this to fix a wiring issue and didn’t feel like running another network cable for security Cameras. I installed it in 5 Minutes and connected the security Cameras and it works great. I have purchase several more and considering several other projects.

It works. Requires RJ-45 inside box – Unfortunately this product comes with an RJ-45 (female) receptacle on the inside of the wall plate. This is the oddest wall plate really. I didn’t check to see if it has TIA-568A or B punch down and unfortunately it doesn’t. This is problematic in multiple ways. First it requires a crimp to RJ-45 inside the box (yuck). Second it means that the Ethernet port shown is actually a bridge port which can potentially introduce other problems. I suppose that isn’t unreasonable and I don’t know if it will be a problem. Will see after I install and test. But a quick warning if you were expecting a punch down — there isn’t one.

A pricey, but dependable option for certain situations – Compared to managed switches such as the new Unifi Flex switch (which sadly has been out of stock for some time now), this “dumb” switch is not the best value. You will be limited to all the ports having the same untagged VLAN, and no ability to power cycle individual devices.

Perfect solution – I was sitting in a co-workers office saying wouldn’t it be great if there was an in wall PoE switch so I didn’t have to have a switch and all the wiring on my desk for both my computers. Then I go searching and I find this. It works wonderfully and is the perfect solution for decluttering an area that only has a single drop but you need to plug in up to 4 machines. I mean it is just a switch after all but it functions flawlessly in that regard and was exactly what I was looking for. Excellent product!

Good but not great; spacing between two ports is too close for many use cases – The PoE Texas Gigabit PoE Splitter in-Wall Receptacle with Fast 5V USB Charging and PoE Output is a good product, but the spacing between the two ports is too close for many use cases. Accordingly, I am giving it 3 stars.

Genius product! – While it would be nice if there were a version of this product that had a built-in keystone punchdown, it wasn’t a big deal at all for me to install this in the existing drop in my kitchen island. I feed this splitter from a Ubiquiti UniFi USW-24-POE switch, and had no issues with data throughput, or charging my iPad from the USB port. The “bidirectional” USB-A port is stroke of genius, and brings USB-C style usability to the product.
