Powerful and reliable router – I went from using Netgear routers running DD-WRT to a Peplink Balance 20X. I am not using the multiple WAN feature.

Beware of Balance 20x Hardware Issues – I had a Balance One damaged by lightning through attached DSL modem. I liked it, but it never produced the 600mbps advertised throughput and ran hot with minimal load/config. Common complaint.

Perfect fit – This is a perfect fit for locations with spotty internet reliability where 4G is an option. Even without installing an external antenna I can get over 2Mbps via 4G in my computer closet. As my primary internet connection is WIFI and a bit iffy, the 4G backup has saved me more than once already.

Peplink is the best – I have used Peplink routers at my office and now at home for several years. They may not have the fastest throughput, they don’t have all the “bells & whistles” as other, especially consumer, routers and are relatively expensive, but you get a first class product with backup/redundancy built in. Like my previous units, this router is stable (reboots are almost never required), tested firmware is released as needed, it has good security and it is reliable. Just a great product all around.

Pricey device, depends on your needs – Not the easiest software to use for someone not experienced. Tons of confusing settings and an unclear expectation of how the Incontrol 2/SpeedFusion works in conjunction with the Peplink router. Videos out there are scattered around with bits and pieces of information but no real solid tutorial. The hardware did not come with any manual or direction. So anyway, I was able to get my Starlink ethernet setup with an AT&T hotspot sim as a failover. However, the provided cellular antennas only get me 4 bars of cell service. Yet when I enable the router WiFi(which I don’t need), it somehow boosts the cellular to 5 bars. Kinda weird how that works? So combine that issue with no true 5G support(with included hardware) and you get a pretty expensive router.

Broke last week of warranty and Peplink refuses to honor warranty – We’ve used Peplink for years due to their reputation for security. All of our Peplink units (Max BR1, Surf SOHO) have failed after a few years to reliably maintain a Wi-Fi signal, but we wrote that off as expected lifetime. We bought a Balance 20X planning for it to be a long-term unit to provide load balancing across cellular WAN and wired WAN. All LAN ports for the entire unit failed the last week of the 1-year warranty, so we went through the normal diagnostics and then opened a ticket with Peplink. We didn’t realize until we opened the ticket that it was the day after the warranty had expired, but we assumed Peplink would still honor their warranty since it clearly failed within the warranty period.

FirstNet Capable and work out of the box – If you’re a Firstnet user, you can put your activated hotspot sim card into this modem/router and turn it on and it will work right out of the box with no input or settings needed from you. Turn key solution.
