Quite advanced easy-to-use router/firewall with some drawbacks – I’ve been using USG series on several places including my own for over 10 years.

I love my ZyWALLs – Love the ZyXEL firewalls, I’ve installed literally hundreds of these over the years in different businesses, all different models and they are rock-solid stable and reliable. I’ve even had a few survive lightening strikes and kept on running. They will run forever or until you decide to upgrade to a faster newer model.

Nice bang for the buck – I’ve been a long time Cisco guy, it’s what I work with for a living. When WFH became the new norm, I had to upgrade my home network. This fit the bill to support my increased demands without breaking my wallet. There is an extensive knowledge base to help you program it. Out of the box, this is pretty PnP. Enabling the advanced features or creating a separate network to keep your work separate from home, takes a bit of knowledge and understanding of terminology. Overall, this serves its purpose and I have not had any issues with it, and will recommend to others in my situation.

Great firewall, especially for home/SOHO – First, this is a good product. I did encounter a bug after upgrading the firmware. I worked with technical support to reproduce the bug. This was taken to the developers who also was able to reproduce the bug and stated it would be fixed in the next firmware release. The service was good. Functionality: I use this to keep the kids tablets, computers, and smartphones from accessing unapproved websites. The USG allows me to NAT internal addresses as well as perform a MAC/IP bind, DHCP reservations, etc. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend or co-worker.

substandard Firewall – The firewall was not good. The device would randomly disconnect for no reason. I troubleshot the unit for 2 weeks and was unable to determine a reason from the logs. The through put from my internet service was reduced to approximately 30Mpbs; much lower that advertised.

Router with Some Very Good Features – The ZyXEL router was recommended by the company providing my VOIP telephone service. It is a full featured router with WiFi that received very positive reviews and was a router that was priced competitively in the recommended list.

solid firewall and router if happy to pay a subscription for it – I purchased the Zyxel USG Flex 200 (USG60 v2) and over-all is a good firewall and router but the down side is after the 30 day promo if you want the firewall feature you have to buy a license to activate it. not a big deal other the the fact that at the time I purchased this it was 400 USD the subscription to use the FW is 379. so basically buying the FW/router all over again. so if you are good with this go for it it feature rich and solid equipment. but if not move on get something else.

MAC Address Filtering Work-Around – I had just bought and set up the wired USG20 router and the dashboard for the USG20W is very similar.
