Solid device, slightly noisy and I wouldn’t run my media server on it – I purchased the 32TB model and so far I’m pleased with the device. I’m using it almost exclusively as a media server for Plex. I first learned of this drive from a Plex promotional email. Initially I had thought that the drive would be able to run my Plex media server and support transcoding movies to my various devices. I was quickly disabused of this notion. While it has a faster processor, I’ve encoded my Blu-Ray collection at quite a high quality rate and I’m use .mkv as the container, so some serious horsepower would be required to server multiple 1080p HD movies to multiple (Apple) devices simultaneously. In the end, since I have a Mac Mini available, I’m using the Mac Mini to run the Plex media server and I’m simply storing my media assets on the PR4100. This works for me. I would, however, caution folks who plan to run the media server on the NAS to do a lot of research to make sure it’ll work as they hope.

1 year and very happy – had this for about a year now and very happy with it. I installed (4) 4 TB WD NAS drives on it and left the stock 4gig of ram. I would definately suggest getting NAS rated drives. they arent that much more and are much more reliable. you can setup the NAS as a basic volume or add one of a few different flavors of RAID to it. I am running RAID5 for speed and fault tolerance. that said, dont rely on that to keep data safe. a simple, cheap usb drive for backups will keep catastrophic failures from being permanent ones.
