Unexplainable firmware goof up + Update – UPDATE: October 2014. I am lowering this to two stars (maybe it should be one) because the 5GHz network connection is not stable. You have to reboot every 2-3 days. So I switched to using it as a bridge/range extender connecting to my new, replacement Asus AC router. Same problem, unstable connection, while individual computers bypassing the Edimax stay connected to the Asus just fine. No new firmware in sight. END UPDATE

The good: fairly inexpensive and very very easy to set … – Wanted an AC capable, megabit Ethernet bridge/AP device and back up router if one of the two I am using broke, and this was under 100.00. Works OK and is about 33% faster than the N bridge/AP I was using (d-link dap 1522) . The good: fairly inexpensive and very very easy to set up. The mediocre: antenna not removable so cannot change, even in bridge mode you have to set up a 5 MHz network, if you turn the wireless switch off it neither transmits OR RECEIVES. Did not want that electronic clutter given that I am already running two 5 MHz LANs. The bad: very weak measured transmit signal ( in AP mode, did not try in router mode but transmission strength should not change) relative to either my AC ASUS router or my old Linksys N router, and if you disable 2.4 there seems to be a major QoS block on file transfers vs internet or media streaming. Due to slow access to Network Drive documents I could not use as a bridge to my home office (computer, VOIP to fax, network printer adaptor with laser printer and scanner attached) but worked well supporting media center (DirecTV OD movie, Netflix movie, you tube video running on connected phone (since it was there I had try the connection, albeit in the same room), and video running at 720p over mctivia connection between computer and TV-All running simultaneously). That would have swamped the d-link bridge. Would not buy again for router capability(big house, weak signal so would never use as back-up), and not sure as AC bridge/AP only it is worth the cost.
