Simple to setup and has descent features for the price. – Had this setup and working within a couple of minutes. I am experienced with setting up NAS so keep that in mind. For the average person, maybe an hour to be up and running with the basic features. The time sink starts when you begin to add additional functionality with all of the applications. You have to setup the apps on the NAS and on your mobile to use. Once setup though it’s nice to be able to easily move pictures and videos from your phone no matter where you are or access those photos. I would give it 5 starts but the mobile apps are not as good as others I have seen. Not unusable but not as refined either.

I love this NAS. – I bought the empty 5202T and added two Seagate Ironwolf 12TB drives. I also upgraded the 2GB RAM to 8 GB (Crucial CT2K4G4SFS824A).

Switched from QNAP to Asustor – Let me start by saying that my QNAP NAS worked very well for me for years. I switched to the Asustor because of the higher ratings it received for running a Plex Server on it. It has been working very well with Plex both locally and remotely. The price was pretty good and setup was pretty straight forward. The one thing i don’t like compared to the QNAP is that you cannot create partitions on the drives to limit the amount of space for different things that are setup on the NAS itself. The only one you can do it with is Time Machine Backup for MAC. Other than that it has been a solid purchase and I continue to explore the possibilities with it.

Great NAS; Lack Of Tech Support – I have an ancient D-Link DNS-323 and a DNS-323 (that still work fine, but are very slow.) I also have a TerraMaster (that broke and tech support is struggling with it right now) and a Synology. I can compare NAS’s at this point.

Missing parts – Received a couple of days earlier which was great. However, when I opened the box, the NAS was missing the two toolless caddies needed to house my hard drives! I’ve reached out to Asustor and hope that they will be able to resolve this issue.

This NAS is a R O C K E T! – Running with 2 8tb drives and using Link Aggregation makes this rock! All the apps available also is a BIG plus. Mind you, the apps aren’t as fast as you would have if they were in a native Linux environment (like Home Assistant) but they’re still great to have available.
