Faster than Ethernet – Doesn’t pay to be an early adopter of technology. I bought an AX router before the standards were finalized and so it didn’t come with a 6Ghz band. This Arris Surfboard adds just the 6E(6Ghz band) portion to your Wi-Fi network. Unfortunately I have only one device capable of connecting via 6Ghz band, which is my desktop PC with a new Wi-Fi adapter and since it is located less than 2ft from the router it isn’t a very challenging test of the capabilities. iPhone hasn’t supported the 6E bands and only a very limited number of phones do support it, unfortunately my S22 isn’t one of them either. So, while it’s a good device if you have a Wi-Fi 6 but not 6E router, the need for it just isn’t very widespread. And with Wi-Fi 7 looming you may be able to wait a little longer and skip a whole generation after using the same standard for nearly 20 years.

Easy to connect – This is a great addition to extend the life of your existing wifi network. 6e is a new bandwidth recently opened up and many devices are not yet compatible. You must have a wifi 6e capable device to use this new adapter. Like. most houses these days with all of the IoT (Internet of Things) devices within your home your existing frequencies of 2.4 and 5 are most likely congested. 6e is a great alternative and will become more useful as device adapt and become compatible.

Great Idea/easy setup – This really is a great idea, and such an easy way to extend the life of your existing router, assuming you have an internet connection worth getting and utilizing Wifi 6E. This Surfboard adapter upgrade is really as easy as they suggest it is. I unpacked it, plugged in the power, and, included ethernet cable, to my Eero Pro 6, and it was basically up and running.

Dedicated Wi-Fi 6E access point. Fast, but can’t be used as an extender. – After reviewing the Arris W6B, which is a pair of Wi-Fi 6E access points that form an extension link using the new 6Ghz bandwidth, I was excited to try the W6U as well, which is more of a traditional access point. It works as a simple, easy way to upgrade your existing network to support 6Ghz Wi-Fi without a bunch of hassle, but it’s a little bit less flexible for extension scenarios.
